Woman Taking The Abortion Pill

From Kentucky and Seeking the Abortion Pill? Colorado’s Here With Open Arms

Let’s not sugarcoat it. Living in Kentucky right now and needing an abortion can feel like carrying a secret weight on your back. Between the legal hurdles and the hush-hush conversations, it’s easy to feel boxed in.

But what if I told you there’s a place where your choices are respected, no matter your zip code? At CARE Clinic Colorado, we’re proud to serve patients traveling from Kentucky who need the abortion pill, offering both in-clinic and by-mail options up to 11 weeks of pregnancy.

You deserve care that’s safe, legal, and above all, human. So let’s talk about how getting here might be less complicated than it sounds.

The Road (or Sky) From Kentucky to Pueblo

Here’s something we’ve learned helping countless people from Kentucky and other states: the idea of travel often feels more daunting than the travel itself.

  • Flying In: Whether you’re leaving from Louisville, Lexington, or Cincinnati’s airport right across the river, direct flights into Denver or Colorado Springs make for a quick journey. Once you’re on Colorado soil, Pueblo is just a scenic drive south.
  • Hitting the Highway: Prefer four wheels to wings? Interstate highways carve a straight path from Kentucky into Colorado. Plenty of patients make the road trip, finding solace in the privacy of their own car.

Traveling for healthcare might sound extreme, but sometimes distance offers the breathing space you need to make personal decisions away from local scrutiny.

The Abortion Pill: More Than Just a “Pill”

The term “abortion pill” rolls off the tongue easily, but there’s more to it. Technically, it’s a two-medication regimen that works together to end an early pregnancy:

  • Mifepristone steps in first, blocking the hormone progesterone so a pregnancy can’t keep developing.
  • Misoprostol follows, prompting the uterus to contract and empty.

People often describe the process as similar to an intense menstrual period, cramping, bleeding, fatigue. It’s hardly a picnic, but it’s over 95% effective and allows many to avoid a surgical procedure altogether.

Some folks want the reassurance of being in a medical clinic. Others prefer handling the process privately at home. At CARE Clinic Colorado, both options are available.

Two Pathways, One Goal: Your Comfort and Safety

Your circumstances are yours alone. That’s why we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Here’s how you can access the abortion pill at CARE Clinic Colorado:

  • Clinic Care in Pueblo
    • Ultrasound to confirm gestational age
    • Medical exam and personalized guidance
    • Pills administered under clinician supervision
  • Abortion Pill By Mail
    • Virtual telehealth visit with our providers
    • Discreet shipment of medication to a Colorado address
    • Step-by-step support for at-home use

We’re not just shipping pills and calling it a day. Whether you’re in the clinic or choosing mail delivery, we’re committed to your safety and peace of mind.

Abortion Pill FAQ

Offered up to 11 weeks

When taken in the first trimester, the abortion pill is 94-98% effective.

If you are taking the abortion pill, some minor side effects may set in after taking the second pill. These side effects may include bleeding, cramping, and nausea.

The cramping happens because the second pill causes your uterus to contract, which is the source of these cramping pains. You can treat these cramping pains in the same way you would with your usual menstrual cramps. For bleeding, it can vary from patient to patient. You may also pass clots with the bleeding. This bleeding is normal as long as you don’t use more than two menstrual pads.

Your symptoms should start to subside 24 hours after taking the second pill.

The abortion pill is very safe, with less than 1% of patients having serious complications.

One reason that patients choose the abortion pill is because it is not invasive. In 98% of patients, there is no surgical procedures necessary. We look to avoid surgical procedures by using the abortion pill, as less surgery means less risk.

The abortion pill does come with cramping and bleeding. The bleeding is usually heavier than a regular period, and the cramping can be moderate to heavy. Most patients find this to be tolerable, but if you do not we will be here to help.

Like any medical procedure, there are some risks. However, complications are very rare. These risks include infection, blood loss, and incomplete pregnancy termination. We will monitor you to ensure that you are safe, and in our follow up appointment we’ll check again.

There is no scientific evidence that the abortion pill can be reversed, so you should be 100% sure you want to go through with it before you take the first pill. We will never pressure you into a choice you don’t want to make, we are here to support you and make sure you have all the information you need for an informed choice.

There is a very low chance of this happening, but if it does, we’ll follow up with a surgical abortion to complete the termination of the pregnancy.
