Understanding Fetal Anomalies
Fetal anomalies encompass a range of conditions that may be detected during pregnancy. These can include:
- Chromosomal disorders such as trisomy 18 or trisomy 13
- Structural abnormalities like anencephaly or severe heart defects
- Neurological conditions that may lead to significant developmental delays
- Incompatible with life diagnoses, where survival outside the womb is not anticipated
These conditions may not be apparent in early pregnancy and are often diagnosed later, sometimes after 20 weeks gestation. Such late diagnoses can be overwhelming, and we are committed to providing the care and support you need.
