Missouri Residents: Your Path to the Abortion Pill Starts at CARE Clinic Colorado

If you’re living in Missouri right now, it might feel like your choices have shrunk overnight. Laws keep shifting, and suddenly a private medical decision can seem tangled in red tape. That’s not how health care should work.

At CARE Clinic Colorado in Pueblo, CO, we open our doors to people from all over, including Missouri, who want safe, private access to the abortion pill. Because when you’re making big decisions, the last thing you need is to feel trapped by geography.

Why CARE Clinic Colorado Makes Sense for Missouri Patients

Choosing to leave Missouri for reproductive care is a huge step, but for many, it’s worth it. Here’s why:

  • We offer the abortion pill in-clinic or by mail (when legally possible) up to 11 weeks of pregnancy.
  • Our staff treats every patient with respect, no matter their story.
  • We keep your medical information private, full stop.

There’s no political soapbox here, just medical care, compassion, and answers to your questions.

Traveling from Missouri? Let’s Break It Down

The idea of crossing state lines for medical care can feel daunting. But for many Missourians, it’s not as complicated as it sounds.

  • By Air: Missouri’s major cities, like St. Louis, Kansas City, or Springfield, have daily flights into Denver International Airport and Colorado Springs Airport. From either airport, it’s just a drive to Pueblo.
  • By Road: Prefer your own wheels? Highways like I-70 or I-44 connect Missouri straight into Colorado. Some patients choose driving for added privacy or flexibility.

And here’s the thing: you don’t have to plan it all alone. We help many patients figure out how to get here smoothly and safely. People sometimes find a sense of relief just knowing the path exists.

Abortion Pill 101: The Basics

Let’s cut through the noise. The abortion pill isn’t a single pill, it’s a two-medication process:

  • Mifepristone halts the hormones that keep a pregnancy going.
  • Misoprostol causes the uterus to contract, emptying its contents.

It’s FDA-approved, highly effective (over 95% when taken correctly), and lets many people manage the process in a private setting.

Most describe it like a very heavy period, sometimes with cramping and clotting. Everyone’s body is different, which is why our staff stays connected with you through the entire experience.

Extra Support for Missourians

If you’re coming from Missouri, we know you’re juggling a million questions, medical, emotional, and practical. That’s why CARE Clinic Colorado offers:

  • Flexible scheduling to fit travel timelines
  • Telehealth consultations when legally allowed
  • Step-by-step instructions for aftercare back home
  • A team who’ll listen, no shaming, no politics

We’ve worked with plenty of Missouri patients who tell us that, while the trip felt intimidating at first, it was ultimately empowering to reclaim their choice.

Abortion Pill FAQ

Offered up to 11 weeks

When taken in the first trimester, the abortion pill is 94-98% effective.

If you are taking the abortion pill, some minor side effects may set in after taking the second pill. These side effects may include bleeding, cramping, and nausea.

The cramping happens because the second pill causes your uterus to contract, which is the source of these cramping pains. You can treat these cramping pains in the same way you would with your usual menstrual cramps. For bleeding, it can vary from patient to patient. You may also pass clots with the bleeding. This bleeding is normal as long as you don’t use more than two menstrual pads.

Your symptoms should start to subside 24 hours after taking the second pill.

The abortion pill is very safe, with less than 1% of patients having serious complications.

One reason that patients choose the abortion pill is because it is not invasive. In 98% of patients, there is no surgical procedures necessary. We look to avoid surgical procedures by using the abortion pill, as less surgery means less risk.

The abortion pill does come with cramping and bleeding. The bleeding is usually heavier than a regular period, and the cramping can be moderate to heavy. Most patients find this to be tolerable, but if you do not we will be here to help.

Like any medical procedure, there are some risks. However, complications are very rare. These risks include infection, blood loss, and incomplete pregnancy termination. We will monitor you to ensure that you are safe, and in our follow up appointment we’ll check again.

There is no scientific evidence that the abortion pill can be reversed, so you should be 100% sure you want to go through with it before you take the first pill. We will never pressure you into a choice you don’t want to make, we are here to support you and make sure you have all the information you need for an informed choice.

There is a very low chance of this happening, but if it does, we’ll follow up with a surgical abortion to complete the termination of the pregnancy.
