Let’s be honest: traveling for medical care isn’t ideal. But when your home state won’t allow you to make decisions about your own pregnancy, it’s necessary. CARE Clinic Colorado offers:

  • Same-day and next-day appointment availability
  • A clinic located within driving distance from many neighboring states
  • Help arranging travel, lodging, and funding resources
  • A fully licensed team specializing in second and third trimester abortion care

Whether you’re dealing with new information about your pregnancy or were delayed by state restrictions, we won’t make you wait any longer.

What Does Late Term Abortion Mean?

vacuum aspiration

At CARE Clinic Colorado, we offer surgical abortions after 20.6 weeks using a combination of D&E (dilation and evacuation) and vacuum aspiration. Depending on your medical needs and gestational age, your procedure may take one or two consecutive clinic visits.

These are precise, evidence-based procedures performed by experienced clinicians who know exactly what they’re doing. And while the language around this kind of care often gets politicized or dramatized, we’re focused on facts, safety, and dignity.

Even if you’re coming from hundreds of miles away, we’ll help make it doable. Many of our out-of-state patients drive in, while others take short, regional flights. Pueblo is easy to access, and once you arrive, everything takes place in one private clinic, no bouncing between facilities.

Why Do People Travel for Late Term Abortion?

Most of our out-of-state patients come to us for the same reason: they couldn’t get care where they live. Some were turned away because they were a few days past their state’s legal limit. Others faced waiting periods, misinformation, or even threats. And for many, time slipped away while they scrambled for answers.

At CARE Clinic Colorado, you won’t be judged, delayed, or denied. You’ll be heard, respected, and cared for.

We serve patients from across the country, including from states like Oklahoma, where later abortion care is no longer available or legal. If that’s your situation, know this, you’re not alone, and you’re not out of options.

What to Expect: The Process, Step by Step

Here’s a brief look at what your care might include:

  • Day 1: Intake, ultrasound, lab work, and the start of cervical dilation (often with laminaria). You’ll meet with your provider and get clear, compassionate explanations about everything ahead.
  • Day 2: If a second visit is needed, the abortion is completed using a combination of D&E and vacuum aspiration. We provide sedation for comfort and monitor you closely throughout.

You’ll rest in a private space and leave with aftercare instructions, follow-up options, and support. Every part of your care happens here in our clinic, no referrals, no delays.

Abortion Pill FAQ

Offered up to 11 weeks

When taken in the first trimester, the abortion pill is 94-98% effective.

If you are taking the abortion pill, some minor side effects may set in after taking the second pill. These side effects may include bleeding, cramping, and nausea.

The cramping happens because the second pill causes your uterus to contract, which is the source of these cramping pains. You can treat these cramping pains in the same way you would with your usual menstrual cramps. For bleeding, it can vary from patient to patient. You may also pass clots with the bleeding. This bleeding is normal as long as you don’t use more than two menstrual pads.

Your symptoms should start to subside 24 hours after taking the second pill.

The abortion pill is very safe, with less than 1% of patients having serious complications.

One reason that patients choose the abortion pill is because it is not invasive. In 98% of patients, there is no surgical procedures necessary. We look to avoid surgical procedures by using the abortion pill, as less surgery means less risk.

The abortion pill does come with cramping and bleeding. The bleeding is usually heavier than a regular period, and the cramping can be moderate to heavy. Most patients find this to be tolerable, but if you do not we will be here to help.

Like any medical procedure, there are some risks. However, complications are very rare. These risks include infection, blood loss, and incomplete pregnancy termination. We will monitor you to ensure that you are safe, and in our follow up appointment we’ll check again.

There is no scientific evidence that the abortion pill can be reversed, so you should be 100% sure you want to go through with it before you take the first pill. We will never pressure you into a choice you don’t want to make, we are here to support you and make sure you have all the information you need for an informed choice.

There is a very low chance of this happening, but if it does, we’ll follow up with a surgical abortion to complete the termination of the pregnancy.

Surgical Abortions Information

Offered after 18.6 weeks

Surgical abortions have a very low rate of complications. However, they are a surgery and use anesthesia. As with any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia, there is always a risk of complications like bleeding or infection. These risks are why we perform blood work and have you visit beforehand so that we catch anything that might increase the chance of complications.

This depends on your individual health. For some higher risk patients, you will receive IV sedation (Twilight Sedation). For lower risk patients, you will receive local anesthesia, sometimes combined with a mild sedative.

There is no scientific evidence that states having a surgical abortion will affect your ability to get pregnant in the future.

We highly recommend having a follow up appointment a few weeks later, which your doctor will schedule with you. This appointment serves as a check-in. We will make sure that you are healthy and without complications, as well as ensure that the pregnancy has been terminated.

Vacuum Aspiration Information

Offered up to 18.6 weeks

Vacuum aspiration has a success rate of 99-100%

Vacuum aspiration is very safe, with a complication rate of less than 1%.

Vacuum aspirations are performed up to 18.6 weeks after your last regular period in CO. This is when they are safest and most effective.

Vacuum aspirations are performed up to 18.6 weeks in CO after your last regular period. This is when they are safest and most effective.

You will likely experience cramping during the procedure, which is a short procedure. Once it’s over, your cramping will likely subside. Some patients report off and on cramping in the next few days, but most do not.

The procedure itself is quick, lasting only up to 5 minutes. Afterward, we’ll need you to spend about 30 minutes in the recovery room to monitor you before you’re welcome to leave.
