When care isn’t available at home, you still have options

Living in a state with restricted or banned abortion access, like Oklahoma, can make it feel like you’ve run out of choices. But you haven’t. CARE Clinic Colorado, located in Pueblo, CO, welcomes patients from across the country, including those traveling from restrictive states. We provide second trimester abortion services, including vacuum aspiration up to 18.6 weeks and surgical abortion after 20.6 weeks, with a focus on comfort, privacy, and respect.

We know the logistics of traveling for care can feel overwhelming. That’s why we offer flexible same-day appointments, help with planning travel and accommodations, and treat every patient like a whole person, not just a chart.

What second trimester abortion care looks like here

If you’re between 18.6 and 24 weeks pregnant, you may need a Dilation and Evacuation (D&E) procedure. It’s often paired with vacuum aspiration and is typically completed over one or two consecutive days in our clinic. If you’re earlier in the second trimester, a vacuum aspiration alone may be appropriate.

Here’s a quick overview of what to expect:

  • Initial visit: Ultrasound, consultation, and cervical preparation if necessary
  • Procedure day: In-clinic care using safe, proven methods with sedation available
  • Recovery: Onsite rest and support from our experienced nursing staff

Every step is explained. Every concern is valid. Every question deserves an answer.

Traveling from Oklahoma? We’ll help guide the way

You might need to take a flight to get here, but you’re not doing it alone. Patients from places like Oklahoma often reach out asking:

  • “How soon can I get in?”
  • “Can someone come with me?”
  • “Where do I stay while I’m in town?”
  • Our team has helped hundreds of out-of-state patients navigate these same questions. We’ll help coordinate appointments that minimize time away from work or family, suggest lodging near the clinic, and share local travel tips to make your visit smoother.

And yes, you can bring a support person. We want you to feel safe and cared for throughout your experience.

Why people seek abortion in the second trimester

There are so many reasons someone might need a second trimester abortion. For many patients we see from Oklahoma, it comes down to lack of earlier access. Sometimes people don’t realize they’re pregnant. Other times, it’s a change in personal circumstances, a fetal diagnosis, or the simple reality of waiting for enough money or time off.

Whatever brought you here, we’re not here to judge, we’re here to help.

Vacuum aspiration up to 18.6 weeks

If you’re earlier in your pregnancy, vacuum aspiration may be the right fit. It’s quick, safe, and completed in one visit. It’s also a common choice for patients traveling from out of state due to its shorter recovery time and straightforward process.

If you’re not sure how far along you are, we can confirm gestational age during your first visit and talk through your options from there.

Why CARE Clinic Colorado is worth the trip

Traveling for abortion care might not have been part of your plan. But if you’re coming from Oklahoma or another state where care is restricted, you deserve a place that makes it as smooth and supportive as possible.

    Here’s what makes us different:

    • We’re in Pueblo, Colorado, a location many patients can reach by car
    • We accept patients from across the country
    • Same-day and next-day appointments are often available
    • Our staff is welcoming, discreet, and experienced
    • No protesters at our doors
    • We offer assistance with travel and accommodations

And unlike some places, we’re not here to waste your time or make things harder. We’re here to get you in, care for you, and get you back home safely.

    Ready when you are

If you’re in Oklahoma and can’t find care where you live, know that you still have safe, legal, respectful options in Colorado. Whether you’re seeking vacuum aspiration up to 18.6 weeks or a second trimester surgical abortion after 20.6 weeks, CARE Clinic Colorado is just a call, or a plane ride, away.

We’ll help with the logistics. We’ll keep it private. And we’ll take good care of you.

Abortion Pill FAQ

Offered up to 11 weeks

When taken in the first trimester, the abortion pill is 94-98% effective.

If you are taking the abortion pill, some minor side effects may set in after taking the second pill. These side effects may include bleeding, cramping, and nausea.

The cramping happens because the second pill causes your uterus to contract, which is the source of these cramping pains. You can treat these cramping pains in the same way you would with your usual menstrual cramps. For bleeding, it can vary from patient to patient. You may also pass clots with the bleeding. This bleeding is normal as long as you don’t use more than two menstrual pads.

Your symptoms should start to subside 24 hours after taking the second pill.

The abortion pill is very safe, with less than 1% of patients having serious complications.

One reason that patients choose the abortion pill is because it is not invasive. In 98% of patients, there is no surgical procedures necessary. We look to avoid surgical procedures by using the abortion pill, as less surgery means less risk.

The abortion pill does come with cramping and bleeding. The bleeding is usually heavier than a regular period, and the cramping can be moderate to heavy. Most patients find this to be tolerable, but if you do not we will be here to help.

Like any medical procedure, there are some risks. However, complications are very rare. These risks include infection, blood loss, and incomplete pregnancy termination. We will monitor you to ensure that you are safe, and in our follow up appointment we’ll check again.

There is no scientific evidence that the abortion pill can be reversed, so you should be 100% sure you want to go through with it before you take the first pill. We will never pressure you into a choice you don’t want to make, we are here to support you and make sure you have all the information you need for an informed choice.

There is a very low chance of this happening, but if it does, we’ll follow up with a surgical abortion to complete the termination of the pregnancy.

Surgical Abortions Information

Offered after 18.6 weeks

Surgical abortions have a very low rate of complications. However, they are a surgery and use anesthesia. As with any surgery or procedure that uses anesthesia, there is always a risk of complications like bleeding or infection. These risks are why we perform blood work and have you visit beforehand so that we catch anything that might increase the chance of complications.

This depends on your individual health. For some higher risk patients, you will receive IV sedation (Twilight Sedation). For lower risk patients, you will receive local anesthesia, sometimes combined with a mild sedative.

There is no scientific evidence that states having a surgical abortion will affect your ability to get pregnant in the future.

We highly recommend having a follow up appointment a few weeks later, which your doctor will schedule with you. This appointment serves as a check-in. We will make sure that you are healthy and without complications, as well as ensure that the pregnancy has been terminated.

Vacuum Aspiration Information

Offered up to 18.6 weeks

Vacuum aspiration has a success rate of 99-100%

Vacuum aspiration is very safe, with a complication rate of less than 1%.

Vacuum aspirations are performed up to 18.6 weeks after your last regular period in CO. This is when they are safest and most effective.

Vacuum aspirations are performed up to 18.6 weeks in CO after your last regular period. This is when they are safest and most effective.

You will likely experience cramping during the procedure, which is a short procedure. Once it’s over, your cramping will likely subside. Some patients report off and on cramping in the next few days, but most do not.

The procedure itself is quick, lasting only up to 5 minutes. Afterward, we’ll need you to spend about 30 minutes in the recovery room to monitor you before you’re welcome to leave.
